Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Creativity has no boundaries and neither does the University for the Creative Arts. UCA is a home for the globally minded. It believes in entrepreneurism and innovation. Bold opportunists, quiet innovators, curious experimentalists and out-of-the-box thinkers are welcomed.

With a long track record of delivering high quality education that prepares graduates for careers in the creative industries, we have been pioneering innovative ideas and practices in creative education for more than 160 years. In 2024 we were named the second highest-ranked specialist creative university in the UK according to The Guardian, and in the most recent REF we were the UK’s top specialist art and design university for world-leading research outputs, with 99% of our research internationally recognised for quality.

UCA is a vibrant community of around 11,000 students from all parts of the UK and overseas, studying a wide range of specialist pre-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate courses at our UK campuses, the Institute of Creativity and Innovation (ICI) in partnership with Xiamen University in China, and in our other partner institutions. An inclusive university that celebrates difference, we prioritise creating a supportive environment for students and staff to find their individual voices and nurture their personal creativity.

Working closely with President & Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane Roscoe, the Deputy-Vice-Chancellor will play a central role in delivering the priorities set out in our refreshed UCA strategy. In particular, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor will lead UCA’s Academic Schools, including ICI. They will also lead a series of strategic projects to drive forward UCA’s cultural and organisational transformation and play an important role embedding new ways of working, as well as engaging staff in our new UCA story.  The role will work across all campuses with base location at Farnham or Epsom campus.

This is a demanding role within a complex organisation with an ambitious strategic plan and agenda for change. Candidates will have significant experience of leading the implementation of organisation-wide strategic projects and a successful track record of leading and inspiring staff with a wide range of interests and backgrounds to achieve common objectives.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic leadership track record, a good understanding of the creative industries, and the ability to instigate and lead successful transformation strategically, operationally and culturally. They will also be wholly committed to delivering our values of inclusion, collaboration and impact.
